The Athenaeum Music & Arts Library’s Acoustic Evenings concert series opens Friday in La Jolla with Wax, Jesus Gonzalez and Rob Deez on the bill.
San Diego Music Hall of Fame founder Jefferson Jay organizes and hosts the series, which features three acts at 7:30 p.m. each Friday through Sept. 27 in the Athenaeum’s Joan & Irwin Jacobs Music Room.
Wax, known as a rapper, but also a producer, songwriter, singer, and comedian, has millions of views on YouTube. Deez classifies himself as a singer/song-rhymer with a bent toward comedy, hip-hop and more. Gonzalez creates soulful vocal harmonies, different instrumentations and percussion using a looper.
Other concerts in the series:
- Sept. 13 – Santiago Orozco, Bri Schillings, Sierra Marin
- Sept. 20 – Tom Griesgraber, Aaron Bowen, Stephen Bulman
- Sept. 27 – Lisa Sanders and Brown Sugar, Fred Benedetti, Sandé Lollis
General admission for the full series starts at $84, with discounts for members and students. Tickets for individual shows start at $23.
Refreshments are available at the intermission receptions and post-concert meet-and-greets.
