Heads up travelers: on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 8 a.m., and continuing through Thursday, Dec. 5, at 4 p.m., Caltrans and SANDAG Build NCC crews will fully close Pio Pico Drive between Chestnut and Palm avenues in the city of Carlsbad.
This closure will allow crews to safely complete roadway paving and stormwater drainage improvements.
During this closure, flaggers and traffic control will be in place to guide travelers in and out of the nearby Chestnut Plaza office building and Hyland Inn. People traveling along Pio Pico Drive who would like to access the Carlsbad Library Learning Center will turn right onto Palm Avenue, left onto Adams Street, left onto Chestnut Avenue, and right onto Eureka Place
What to Expect
- Nearby residents and businesses can expect minor travel delays as well as construction lights and noise from saw cutting, jackhammering, and vehicle back-up alarms required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration).
- These construction activities are expected to take place intermittently, day and night, throughout the duration of the closure.
- During this closure, detour signage and flaggers will be in place to help guide travelers through the work area.
- Crews will work to minimize noise and impacts to all nearby communities as much as possible.
When traveling through construction zones, please remember to drive with caution, pay close attention to flaggers, and follow all posted signage. As always, construction schedules are subject to change. For more information on TransNet funded projects, visit SANDAG.org/TransNet.
