The city of San Diego will open a Local Assistance Center Saturday for residents impacted by flooding in Southeast communities.
The center, located at the Mountain View Community Recreation Center, will be open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Saturday through Feb. 9.
The winter storm that battered the region on Jan. 22 caused flooding in several San Diego neighborhoods – Mountain View, Southcrest, Encanto, San Ysidro and other areas.
Mayor Todd Gloria credited San Diego County and the state Office of Emergency Services for opening the center.
“State and local governments, in partnership with our community-based organizations, are banding together at this Local Assistance Center to offer the services that will help get people back on their feet,” Gloria said.
The center will play host to various agencies providing a variety of services:
- City of San Diego – the City Clerk will assist with appointments for replacement of passport books and passport cards. The Development Services Department will provide information and advice about what type of permits are needed to repair damage and assist with applications. The San Diego Housing Commission advise residents on short-term hotel stays related to the recent storms, while aides from District Offices 4, 8 and 9 will be available to serve constituents.
- County of San Diego – the Assessor’s Office will assist with claim forms for property damage of homes and businesses of more than $10,000, and other property tax relief.
- State of California – various agencies will be available to offer guidance, including the Contractors State License Board, California Department of Insurance, Department of Motor Vehicles, California Department of Tax and Fee Administration, Employment Development Department, Franchise Tax Board and National Flood Insurance.
In addition, several non-governmental organizations will be on hand, including 2-1-1, San Diego Gas & Electric, San Diego Humane Society, Team Rubicon, Feeding America, American Red Cross and All Hands All Hearts, along with faith-based organizations that work in disaster recovery.
Interpretation will be available at the Local Assistance Center, including American Sign Language interpreters on site.
The county had opened an assistance center at the beginning of the week. Services continue to be available at the Spring Valley Library at 836 Kempton St.
