Times of San Diego is proud to welcome three fall term interns from journalism programs in Phoenix and San Diego.
The three are Eshaan Sarup and Keller Brown from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications at Arizona State University and Sydney Brammer from Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego.
Funding for their internships comes through Times of San Diego’s new partnership with NEWSWELL, a nonprofit affiliate of ASU. The three started earlier in September and have already written numerous articles.
Brammer, a native of Visalia in the Central Valley, is a junior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in journalism. Last summer she interned at The Sun-Gazette in Tulare County. She is the features editor for her college newspaper and a CrossFit Intramural coach.
“I’m really excited for this opportunity to grow my skills and passion as a journalist,” Brammer said. “I believe local journalism is essential to maintaining an educated and united democracy, so it’s really special to contribute to that in the great city of San Diego.”
Brown, a native of Oregon, is a graduate student working towards a master’s degree in sports journalism. He is returning to Times of San Diego after a successful summer internship. His previous experience includes stints at KJZZ Radio and AZPreps365, both in Phoenix.
“I’m thrilled to be able to continue working with Times of San Diego,” Brown said. “I was able to gain a lot of journalistic skills over the summer, and I am excited for the opportunity to work on more stories in the San Diego area.”
Sarup, a native of Virginia, is also a graduate student, studying for a master’s degree in investigative reporting. They interned at the Arizona Republic in Phoenix and at the Howard Center for Investigative Journalism. They also just completed work on “Fractured,” a reporting project that examined the state of American democracy during this election year.
“I am really excited to join the team at Times of San Diego,” Sarup said. “I hope to further hone my journalistic skills and contribute to the amazing local reporting done by Times of San Diego.”
Times of San Diego plans to provide a number of internship opportunities every semester to journalism students in California and Arizona.
