San Diego County Air Pollution Control District personnel conducted several inspections Friday after complaints of “strong odors” along the Carlsbad and Oceanside coast.
Locating the source of the odor was a challenge due to its fleeting nature, but investigators confirmed it was not related to a fire in Escondido at a San Diego Gas & Electric battery facility.
“Our field inspectors are on-site and have documented odors resembling a mix of plastic and asphalt/oil in certain areas but the odors … dissipate quickly,” the district said in a statement.
