A motorist died early Saturday, and another suffered major injuries, after a fiery crash into a tree in Kearny Mesa.
The male driver of the Nissan left the roadway while proceeding eastbound on state Route 52 around 2:30 a.m., according to OnScene.TV. The car entered the right shoulder, where the Nissan hit a large eucalyptus tree and burst into flames.
Two officers from the California Highway Patrol arrived and attempted to extinguish the fire, while awaiting San Diego firefighters.
The driver was found lying outside of the car and was transported to a local hospital.
Firefighters discovered the passenger inside the vehicle. It’s unknown if the person died from the impact or the fire.
