The Navy released a photo this week of a landing craft air cushion flying over the Pacific Ocean near the San Diego-based littoral combat ship USS Omaha.
The LCAC, assigned to Assault Craft Unit 5 at Camp Pendleton, departed the dock landing ship USS Comstock during a Surface Warfare Advanced Tactical Training exercise.
The Navy operates 74 LCACs, which are carried by various amphibious ships and can ferry Marines and they equipment at speeds of up to 70 knots.
The LCACs have the ability to fly up on enemy beaches during an assault.
The landing craft fleet is based on both the east and west coasts and in Japan.
