The North County LGBTQ Resource Center hosts the 17th annual “Pride by the Beach,” opening at noon Saturday in Oceanside.
Billed as “a celebration of diversity, acceptance and empowerment,” the award-winning festival kicks off Pride season in Southern California.
The festival, at the heart of the Oceanside Cultural District, near Civic Center Drive and N. Nevada Street, features two entertainment stages and retail and food vendors in a family-friendly atmosphere free from alcohol and tobacco.
On the Main Stage, DJ Inspire will set the tone for the day, backed by an array of LGBTQ+ local artists. The event also will feature educational booths, activities for all ages, and opportunities to meet with local organizations and allies.
In addition, in partnership with the Oceanside Museum of Art, attendees can explore artistic expression that narrates the LGBTQ+ experience.
“Our theme this year, ‘Our Story, Our Power,’ reflects the essence of our festival. It’s about showcasing the strength and resilience of our community through our own stories,” said Roxanne Deatherage, director of the event. “We invite everyone to join us as we celebrate the diversity and narratives that power our community.”
Last year’s event attracted 20,000 participants, earning the “Best of North County Silver Award” for Annual Festivals/Events.
