A San Diego police officer and two people involved in a high-speed chase on state Route 94 were injured Monday when their vehicles crashed in the Emerald Hills neighborhood, authorities said.
Shortly after 1 a.m. Monday, the officer stopped the vehicle on a traffic violation but the driver took off, leading to a pursuit, according to the San Diego Police Department. The SDPD told 10News that the chase began on eastbound SR-94 at the Interstate 805 connector.
During the chase, the suspect “exited off Kelton Road at a high speed, and they lost control when trying to navigate back onto the freeway,” according to the report. “This caused the crash into a nearby embankment.”
The police officer also crashed into the same embankment, the station added.
Two people in the vehicle suffered leg fractures and were taken to a hospital, police said.
The officer complained of back pain but wasn’t seriously hurt, according to the SDPD.
